Best Toho movie ever, after "Destroy All Monsters". 
The special effects are actually pretty great, the story is a typical Toho production.
There are multiple stock story lines happening simultaneously involving scientists and military vs. aliens using giant monsters to destroy the world, who happen to feed on diamonds.

There is a subplot involving the mafia and jewel thief's too, but its all a bit foggy, and besides it wasn't the point anyway

All Toho films are giant monster showcases, with human characters and interchangable backgrounds, and this was no exception.
The jelly-monsters themselves are almost beautiful to look at in a way, sucking up buildings and whole cities like vacuums, tentacles half obscured by clouds.
